ReRime guide in English
ReRime brings the Rime you know to iPhone. Typing, Pinyin correction and word learning happen on the device, and the keyboard itself never connects; dictionary updates are done by the App and need a network. This page describes public beta 1.3.0 (78), which requires iOS 26 or later.
Getting started
Apply from the home page and install with TestFlight once you are invited. Open ReRime, tap Set Up, then Open Settings, and turn on the two switches the guide shows: enable the ReRime keyboard and Allow Full Access. Back in a text field, touch and hold 🌐, choose ReRime and type a few letters; setup is then complete. A dictionary ships with the App, so there is nothing to download first.
Full Access lets the keyboard read and write the shared dictionary and settings, use the clipboard functions, and play key sounds and haptics. It does not mean your typing is uploaded. See the privacy statement for how data is handled. The builds on offer are whatever TestFlight shows.
1.3.0: nine-key rebuilt
Nine-key has a new bottom row: 符 (symbols), Emoji, Space, 中/英 (language) and Return, with Space in the middle. 符 opens a symbol page, a flick or a hold on 0 opens a number page, and typing in a run no longer drops digits into your words. The keyboard’s haptics now play on ReRime’s own haptic route, and each feel under Key Feedback has a Sharpness and a Release slider. The Space ring has six new line styles. The dictionary updates itself on Wi-Fi. The full notes and demos are on the What’s New page.
Verification-code quick paste is removed. If you added ReRime’s verification-code shortcut, please delete it in the Shortcuts app. A code in a text message is left to the system keyboard; a code copied from elsewhere is pasted with a long press, as before.
Two keyboards, a few gestures
Choose Full Keyboard or Nine-Key under Keyboard Layout; in English, nine-key still uses the full keyboard. To switch between Chinese and English, swipe down on Shift on the full keyboard, or tap 中/英 on nine-key’s bottom row.
Hold Space for about half a second and a half ring opens above the key, one line per function: Now, the script switch, symbols, the calculator, the clipboard, settings and more. Move toward a line and lift to run it; pull down to cancel. While you are composing Pinyin, holding Space does not open the ring: it enlarges the Pinyin, and sliding sideways moves the cursor into it.
Make it yours
The App’s home page has six tiles: Input, Display, Keyboard Layout, Keys, Space Ring and Key Feedback, with Dictionary below them. Under Input → Correction Style, pick one of seven styles and see an example at once; what you typed and what is suggested are drawn at different visual levels, in light and dark. Nine-key has no Pinyin correction or fuzzy Pinyin yet. Glide Typing is experimental, off by default and only on the full keyboard; while it is on, flicks on letters are paused.
Display holds candidate text size, key labels and keyboard height (Compact, Standard, Tall, or finer steps). Keys sets Flick Input: off, flick up or flick down, with a symbol or an action for each key. Space Ring decides which functions sit on the ring and how it looks. Key Feedback holds sounds, volume and five haptic feels.
Clipboard settings and their demo are under Space Ring → Actions → Clipboard. Read Clipboard When Opened and Save Content You Choose to Read are separate switches, both off by default; at most 15 records are kept, for 3 days. Do not add passwords or private text to the records.
Dictionary
Under Dictionary, Auto-Update on Wi-Fi is on by default: opening the App checks once a day and, on Wi-Fi outside Low Data Mode, installs a newer dictionary by itself; nothing is downloaded automatically on cellular. My Entries can be viewed and searched, and entries can be imported from a file.
How does the web demo differ from the App?
The home page lets you try local dictionary lookup and some keyboard interactions. The correction replay uses a fixed long sentence and shows the mistyped and suggested letters in the Soft Pair style, with candidates following the scripted input. It is not the full iOS correction engine and does not promise to correct whatever you mistype on the web page.
The seven correction styles are chosen in the App’s settings. Settings on the web page are not written to the App, and the demo cannot tell you about haptics, input latency or heat on a phone.
Use and feedback
ReRime is currently offered for testing through TestFlight. Features and candidates keep changing, and a correction may not be what you meant, so check your text before sending it. The dictionary and what the keyboard has learned are your local data; make sure of a backup before clearing or reinstalling. Public test builds do not include the sensitive input diagnostics, and ordinary typing is processed offline on the device.
When you report something, include the App version, iPhone model, iOS version, the steps and an input example without anything private. Haptics that stop partway, digits appearing while typing fast on nine-key, or correct input changed to something wrong are all worth reporting. Reach us through TestFlight or feedback@rerime.com; please do not include passwords, verification codes or private chats.
