1.3.0. Nine-key rebuilt, and a steadier keyboard.

Since public beta 1.2.4 (69): nine-key has a new bottom row, a symbol page and a number page, and fast typing no longer drops digits into your words; the keyboard’s haptics play on a route of their own; the Return key’s word and the symbol category names follow the input mode; glide recognition is faster; the Space ring has six new line styles; the dictionary updates itself on Wi-Fi; iOS no longer ends the keyboard in the background when you switch apps; and Paste Verification Codes is removed. The 1.3 changes and demos come first, then 1.2 and everything before it.

1.3.0 (80) · public betaCompared with public beta 1.2.4 (69)Requires iOS 26 or later

New in 1.3

1.3.0 (80) is the current public beta, available from October 15. It brings together the internal builds of October 5 to 14 that followed 1.2.4 (69). Three demos come first, then the changes by area, written as what you’ll see once you update. What has not been confirmed item by item on an iPhone is listed under Still being verified.

1.3.0 · New looks

New looks for the Space ring

Six new line styles follow the half ring instead of crossing it. Every icon can show while it is open, and the ring can open at the middle of Space; the direction is still measured from where your finger rested. The 1.2.4 ring is the one shown under The Space ring below.

1.3.0 · Rebuilt

Nine-key, rebuilt

The bottom row is 符, Emoji, Space, 中/英 and Return, with Space in the middle of the keyboard and each key group in its own colour. The left column’s four marks type Chinese on a tap and English on a flick; 符 opens the symbol page; a flick on 0 opens the number page. Nine-key in 1.2.4 is the one shown under See it in action below.

Demo: Tap ?, then flick it for the English mark; pick @ on the symbol page and turn the page; flick 0 for the number page and type 12×3; 中/英 goes to English and back.

1.3.0 · Changed behaviour

Fast typing no longer types digits

On nine-key, a flick in your flick direction on a 1–9 key types its digit. When you type fast, your finger is already on its way to the row above as it leaves a key, and 1.2.4 read that as a flick: a digit landed in the middle of a word. Now, inside a run of letters (less than 0.35 s after the previous one), a flick needs 40 pt of travel, about as far as the middle of the key above; a first touch after a pause, and digits flicked one after another, still need 20 pt. The cost: a digit flicked straight inside a run of letters needs a longer pull.

Demo: 6 4 6 3 6 in a run, the second 6 lifting 24 pt higher than it landed: still 你们. After a pause, the same stroke types 6. The candidates are illustrative.

Nine-key, rebuilt

  • Changed behaviourTyping in a run no longer types digitsOn the 1–9 keys, a touch that lands right after the previous letter (within 0.35 s), or one still held while another finger lands, needs 40 pt of travel in your flick direction to count as a digit; it used to be 20 pt. A first touch after a pause and digits flicked one after another still need 20 pt; the ,。 key and the full keyboard are unchanged. A digit flicked straight inside a run of letters needs a longer pull, or a short pause first.
  • A symmetric bottom rowThe bottom row is now 符, Emoji, Space, 中/英 and Return: two keys of the same width on each side and Space in the middle of the keyboard. The English keyboard and its 123 and #+= pages use the same row.
  • A language key中/英 switches between Chinese and English from the row; on a 123 or #+= page it returns to letters.
  • Key groups in their own coloursMode keys, character keys (,。 and 0), Delete and the left column each have their own colour, in light and in dark. Return is the row’s one blue key.
  • Four fixed punctuation cellsWhen you aren’t typing, the left column is ,。?!. A tap types the Chinese mark; a flick in your flick direction types its English twin.
  • 符 opens a new symbol pageA symbol page in the nine-key shape: categories in the left column, five columns of symbols scrolling by rows beside it, Delete and two page keys on the right. It opens on 常用, then 中文, 英文 and the symbol browser’s families. It stays open pick after pick; leave with 简体, 123 or 中/英 on the bottom row.
  • Emoji from 符Flick 符 or hold it (its corner shows a small face), or tap the face at the top of the symbol page’s category column.
  • Numbers from 0Flick 0 in your flick direction, or hold it, and a number page opens: 1–9 in their nine-key places, 0 where it was, the point above it, and a scrolling column of + - × ÷ = % / : # * on the left. A tap on 0 still types 0. The page stays open digit after digit; leave with 简体, 符 or 中/英 on the bottom row.
  • iPhones with the Globe keyGlobe takes the second key’s place (符, Globe, Space, 中/英, Return), so Space keeps its full width; Emoji is reached from 符.
  • The App’s pictures caught upThe nine-key pictures under Keyboard Layout and Keys draw the keyboard as it is now.

Key haptics

  • Changed behaviorThe keyboard’s haptics play on a new routeKey and Backspace presses and repeats, the pulse on release, the selection tick (中/英, candidates, cursor steps, the Space ring) and the cue haptics (a refusal, hold-to-confirm, reaching an end) now all play on ReRime’s own haptic route. It is aimed at one problem: each time the keyboard appeared, the first few presses vibrated and the rest did not. By design that should not happen again, but it has not been confirmed on an iPhone. The calculator’s result haptic, the clipboard split and the App’s own screens are unchanged.
  • Two sliders on each feel: Sharpness and ReleaseUnder Key Feedback → Haptics, the selected feel has a Sharpness and a Release slider, kept per feel, with a way to restore it once changed. They are settings on this iPhone only; nothing is recorded or exported.
  • The feels use starting valuesOn the new route the five feels use a first set of values that has not been felt and tuned one by one on an iPhone. If one is not what you were used to, tell us.

Keys and the candidate strip

  • Changed behaviorThe Return key’s word follows the input modeThe word on the Return key in search and chat fields (Search, Send and the others) now follows the current input mode: 搜索 in Simplified Chinese, 搜尋 in Traditional, Search in English, and it changes at once when you switch 中 / EN. Where the word does not fit on nine-key’s Return key, the key shows the return arrow instead and stays blue. What VoiceOver reads is unchanged.
  • Symbol category names follow the input modeThe full keyboard’s symbol panel and nine-key’s symbol page now have Traditional Chinese and English category names and follow the input mode. In English, nine-key’s left column reads Main, CN, EN and each group’s English name, with longer names on two lines.
  • The accounting keyboard’s words follow the input modeIn English mode its Space and Return keys read Space and Return, and the bracket keys no longer show the small 开 / 合 hints; in Traditional Chinese the hints read 開 / 合. The App’s pictures of the accounting keyboard, in the gesture demo and on the Calculator page, follow the App’s language.
  • Changed behaviorIn English mode, the L flick types an apostropheIn English mode the K and L flicks both typed ". K now types " and L the apostrophe '; the last two keys of the number page’s second row are " and '. Chinese mode is unchanged. The ' in the corner of L is very thin; tell us whether you can read it.
  • Changed lookThe bottom row’s keys show their lower edgeEvery key draws its lower edge 1 pt under itself. Under the bottom row that point lay outside the keyboard and was cut off, most visibly on nine-key. The keyboard is now 1 pt taller (256 pt at the standard height) and the edge is drawn; no key moved or changed size. This applies to the full keyboard and to nine-key.
  • A tap beside Space goes to SpaceIn the gap between Space and its neighbour, each key now owns its own half. Space’s half used to type the letter in the row above.
  • A key no longer stays drawn as pressedWhen a second finger landed in a gap between keys while another key was still down, one key could stay drawn as pressed until it was tapped again. It now clears when the finger leaves.
  • Set Up Dictionary (准备词库) is never drawn over candidatesThe candidate strip shows either candidates or 准备词库, never one over the other. The case where it appeared with the dictionary installed, after an app went to the background and came back, is fixed too: the keyboard recovers by itself at the next key.

Steadier

  • iOS no longer ends the keyboard when you switch appsWhen an app left the screen, iOS could load one more keyboard and never show it. That keyboard held the dictionary files, and iOS ended it when it was suspended, without any message; what you noticed was a keyboard that had to start again and came up slowly the next time. The keyboard now opens the dictionary only when it is about to be shown, and releases its files when the app it is in goes to the background. Words you have taught it were never affected.
  • The “ReRime Crashed” dialog on switching appsIn internal builds, leaving the App while it was recording diagnostics could make iOS end it and show this dialog. The App now finishes up and releases its files before it goes to the background, and carries on when it returns. Public beta builds do not include that recording, and the cause has not been confirmed from a crash log.
  • The keyboard closes its dictionary before it gives back its background timeOnce hidden, the keyboard keeps its dictionary open for a while so a quick return does not reopen it. When it let go of it (memory pressure, the App’s request, the app it is in going to the background), it used to give back its background time first and close the dictionary after, so iOS could suspend and end it while the dictionary still held its files; what you noticed was a keyboard that came up slowly the next time. It now closes the dictionary first and then gives back the time; when it lets go or reopens is unchanged.

A flick on Backspace

  • Flick Backspace to clear the fieldWith Flick Input on, a flick on Backspace in your flick direction runs Clear All: the armed flick shows a red clear mark first, and the notice offers Undo. It is on by default.
  • Change it or turn it offUnder Keys → Flick Input, Backspace is now an editable key: either direction can be turned off or set to another function or text.
  • Hard to trigger by accidentIt needs a longer, straighter flick than a letter, never fires once Backspace has started repeating, and isn’t available while pinyin is pending. On nine-key the Delete key’s corner shows a gray 清.

New looks for the Space ring

  • It can open at the middle of SpaceSpace Ring → Look gains Opens At: Under Finger (the default, as before) or Centered. The direction is still measured from where your finger rested, so the same motion chooses the same function.
  • Every icon can show while it is openIcons Shown has four choices: Chosen (the default, as before), All, On Open and Nearby. With more than one icon shown, When Chosen sets how the chosen one stands out: Lens, In Place or Spotlight.
  • Six new line stylesDots (the default), Segments, Band, None, Glow and Dew replace the earlier four.
  • The Look page draws your own ringThe pictures under Look follow the functions, order and icons you put on the ring, instead of a fixed sample.

Dictionary updates

  • Automatic updates on Wi-FiDictionary has one switch, Auto-Update on Wi-Fi, on by default, in place of the automatic-check interval. Opening the App checks once a day and, on Wi-Fi outside Low Data Mode, installs a newer dictionary by itself. Nothing is downloaded unasked on cellular, and a failed automatic attempt shows no error.
  • Three places to download fromThe same signed files are served from GitHub, from dict.rerime.com and from CNB in mainland China. The App tries them in order and moves on when one doesn’t answer; with the region set to mainland China it tries CNB first. It does not look up your location from your IP address.
  • Slow networks finish tooA download is no longer stopped after five minutes in total; it fails only after 30 seconds without data.
  • A new install has the current dictionary, nine-key includedThe dictionary that ships with the App is now the one the update channel publishes. On a new install nine-key works before any download, and the dictionary is no longer replaced seconds after the first launch. An iPhone that never updated takes this one from the App itself, without a download: on its own when automatic updates are on, otherwise from Update on the Dictionary page.
  • Updating keeps what is yoursGoing from the old bundled dictionary to this one keeps your imported personal entries and the words it has learned.
  • Glide typing reads the same wordsThe glide word list is rebuilt from this dictionary, so glide typing and tapping read the same words.
  • The keyboard stays offlineTyping is unchanged and the keyboard itself never connects; the privacy statement names the three hosts.

First-run setup and the paste permission

  • Setup has one stepEnable the keyboard and Full Access. The Allow Paste step is gone: it sent you to Settings for a row iOS shows only after ReRime has asked to paste once, so on a new install there was nothing to find. The home screen now counts the keyboard and the dictionary only.
  • The paste permission is offered when it can be setiOS asks by itself at the first read. Only after a refused read does System Paste Permissions appear, in the clipboard settings, with an illustration and Open Settings; it goes away at the next read that works.

Fixes

  • An English candidate no longer doubles in QQ’s 申请加群 fieldIn 1.2.4, choosing an English candidate in that answer field entered the typed letters plus the word (frankfrank). It is now entered once; other fields are unaffected.

Clipboard

  • A split item no longer shows a gapUnder the number and URL filters of the clipboard panel, once an item that can be split was tapped, the full item kept beside the pieces stayed in two halves and looked as if it had a space in the middle. It is now one string; its size, position, what it pastes and the gesture are unchanged.
  • Splitting is no longer slow on long unbroken textAfter copying a long text with no spaces in it (a long key or encoded string, say), tapping the number filter in the clipboard panel could take a while to answer. It no longer does; typing was never held up by it.
  • Records keep 4 to 8 digit strings againThey used to be left out for the sake of verification codes; see Paste Verification Codes: removed.

Sampling: optional

  • Optional, with consent, and out of the waySampling is reached from About by tapping the version three times, and asks for your consent once before it starts. It records only while a sampling page is open and you type its fixed prompts; ordinary typing is never recorded. The records stay on the iPhone, are deleted after 7 days and never go online; others see them only if you tap Export and send the file yourself. Delete Sampling Data on the sampling page removes everything at any time. The privacy statement (2026-10-08) has a new paragraph that says the same.
  • Tap SamplingOn the full keyboard: type 22 fixed sentences letter by letter in four ways — upright, lying on the left side, lying on the right side, walking — about four minutes each. It records where each tap lands and which key it hit.
  • Nine-Key SamplingWith the nine-key layout the same entry opens the nine-key block: 19 fixed prompts, about two minutes, after you choose a hand (Both Thumbs, Right Thumb, Left Thumb). It records where each touch lands and lifts, how long it stays, how it moves in between, how large the contact is, whether another finger was down, and what kind of action the keyboard took and on which key.
  • Leaving the App stops samplingSwitch to another app in the middle of a session and it ends at once, so nothing is recorded in the other app; what was recorded can still be exported. A session that was started and never finished expires 10 minutes after its last prompt instead of 2 hours.
  • Public beta builds do not read the motion sensorIn internal builds the tap records also carry which way the phone is turned and how much it moves; public beta builds do not read the motion sensor.
  • The consent text changed, so you agree again onceThe three sampling pages share one explanation, and this version adds what nine-key sampling records.

Paste Verification Codes: removed

  • The feature is goneThe experimental Paste Verification Codes of 1.2.4 is no longer offered: the code item at the start of the candidate strip, the App’s Verification Codes tile and page, and ReRime’s Get Verification Code action in Shortcuts no longer exist. The App’s home page is back to six tiles.
  • If you added the shortcut, please delete itIf you added ReRime’s verification-code shortcut or automation, delete it in the Shortcuts app: its ReRime step no longer exists.
  • Filling in a code nowA code in a text message is left to the system keyboard, which iOS brings up by itself when it recognises a code message. A code copied from elsewhere is pasted with a long press, as before. The clipboard panel and text splitting are unchanged.
  • Clipboard records keep short numbers againA copied string of four to eight digits used to be left out of your clipboard records. That rule existed only for verification codes and went with them. With clipboard records on, such a string is recorded like any other text, and can be deleted singly or cleared the same way.
  • One paragraph less in the privacy statementThe paragraph about verification codes was removed with the feature; the statement is dated 2026-10-09.

What changes when you update to 1.3.0

  • On nine-key, a digit flicked inside a run needs a longer pullA digit flick right after a letter needs 40 pt; after a short pause, or one digit after another, it is still 20 pt.
  • The keyboard is 1 pt tallerSo that the bottom row’s lower edge is drawn; no key moved.
  • A chosen line style becomes a new oneRail becomes Segments; Ticks, Lift and the former Dots become the new Dots. Your functions, order, icon position and motion stay as they are.
  • 0 no longer flicks to a pointThe point is a key on the number page, and still in key 1’s hold palette. A custom flick you had set on 0 no longer applies.
  • Nine-key no longer reaches the Chinese 123 pagesFrom the Chinese nine-key layout, the number page and the symbol page take the place of the earlier 123 and #+= pages; the English keyboard’s pages are unchanged.
  • The check interval becomes one switchIf you had chosen manual checks only, Auto-Update on Wi-Fi starts off.
  • A new install no longer turns on Read Clipboard When OpenedIt used to be switched on as a side effect of the removed setup step.
  • In English mode, the L flick becomes an apostropheIt used to type ", like K.
  • A copied string of 4 to 8 digits goes into your clipboard recordsOnly with clipboard records on; it used to be left out for the sake of verification codes.
  • Return and symbol labels follow the input modeIn English mode the Return key reads Search and the like, with the return arrow where nine-key has no room; the symbol category names and the accounting keyboard follow the input mode too.
  • Paste Verification Codes is goneThe code item no longer appears in the candidate strip, and the App has no Verification Codes page. If you added ReRime’s verification-code shortcut, delete it in the Shortcuts app.

Glide recognition does less work

  • Recognition no longer takes the long way roundReading a glide means looking things up in an internal table over and over. An earlier change had made those lookups slower; that is fixed. The same glide gives exactly the same result as before, and accuracy is unchanged; it simply takes less time.
  • The iPhone is spared the same workThe iPhone runs the same computation, so it is spared the same work; but its speed was not measured this time, so we make no claim about how much faster typing feels.
  • Glide context recounted for the new dictionaryThe word-pair data a glide consults for context has been recounted for the bundled dictionary revision 36: of the 72 words that had no pair counts, 71 now have them.

Nine-key, and still ReRime.

Nine-key and the full keyboard share one dictionary and one personal learning, and the Space gestures are the same. The Pinyin line shows letters, not digits; tap a spelling in the left column to lock it. This is nine-key in 1.2.4; the rebuilt 1.3.0 keyboard is under Nine-key, rebuilt above.

Demo: Press 6 4 4 2 6, lock ni in the left column, pick 你好.

New in 1.2

The previous public beta, 1.2.4 (69). The internal builds between September 27 and October 2, after public beta 1.1.1 (61), all arrive in 1.2.4 (69). They’re grouped by area here, written as what you’ll see once you update.

Nine-key keyboard

  • Nine-key arrivesChoose Full Keyboard or Nine-Key under Keyboard Layout in the App; the keyboard switches the next time it appears. Keys 2–9 type pinyin, and the pinyin line always shows letters, never digits. Both keyboards share one dictionary and one personal learning.
  • The left column locks a spellingWhen you aren’t typing, the left column holds punctuation. While you type, it lists the possible spellings of the first undecided syllable; tap one to lock it.
  • Key 1 and the right columnKey 1 types @, opens a symbol palette on a long press, and becomes the syllable separator (分词) while you type. The right column is Delete (swipe left while typing to start over, with undo), ,。 (tap for a comma, flick up for a full stop) and 0, which becomes 重输 while you type.
  • Bottom row and Space as beforeThe bottom row and every Space gesture match the full keyboard; English switches to the full 26-key English keyboard. Hold Space to open the ring and simply lift to switch Chinese and English.
  • It needs the newer dictionaryThe App downloads the dictionary nine-key uses (a network connection is required). Until it’s installed, Nine-Key shows as unavailable and the keyboard stays on the full layout.

Glide TypingExperimental

  • Glide a word or a whole sentenceOnce it’s on, draw across the letters of the full keyboard: the pinyin and candidates follow your finger, a translucent trail shows the path, and other readings wait in the candidate strip.
  • Off by defaultTurn on Glide Typing under Experimental Features on the App’s Input page. Tap its icon to watch a keyboard demonstration first.
  • How it sits with other gesturesHolding a letter still moves the cursor. While glide is on, flicks on the letters are paused.

Space Ring

  • Hold Space for a half ringHold Space for 0.4 seconds and half a circle of thin lines opens above the key, one line per function; only the chosen one shows its icon, on a round glass plate. It replaces the old row of shortcuts.
  • Direction, not distanceThe direction of your finger chooses; you don’t have to travel far. Push Now further out along its line to open the date and time card.
  • Up to twelve functionsIt used to be seven. The App’s Space Ring page replaces Quick Actions and lets you choose the lines (Ticks, Lift, Dots, Rail), where the icon sits (Follows Finger, Stays on Top) and the motion (Crisp, Soft, Bouncy).
  • Drifting below Space doesn’t close itA finger that slides under the Space key keeps the ring open; far below, nothing is chosen. The old pull-down-to-cancel is gone.
  • ProMotionThe ring’s motion keeps the display’s refresh rate even while the keyboard is busy. Low Power Mode stays at 60 Hz, and Reduce Motion shows no motion. The small previews on the settings page play the same way.

Paste Verification CodesRemoved in 1.3

  • Removed in 1.3This feature is gone in 1.3; see Paste Verification Codes: removed. The entries below describe it as it was in 1.2.4.
  • This one is experimentalIt isn’t dependable yet, and its known limits are the later entries in this group; in the App, the Verification Codes tile and switch carry a sprout mark that opens the same list. It’s on by default; turn it off or change its look on the App’s Verification Codes page. It needs Full Access.
  • Copy, then one tapAfter you copy a verification code of four to eight digits, the keyboard offers it as one item at the start of the candidate strip; a tap types it. The item goes away after the tap, after a short while, or when you carry on typing, and the code never enters your clipboard records.
  • Codes from Messages need an automation, added onceA code in a text message doesn’t reach the keyboard by itself. Add a Shortcuts automation once, using ReRime’s Get Verification Code action; the steps are on the App’s Verification Codes page. A code taken this way is dropped if unused for three minutes.
  • Known limit: iOS brings up its own keyboardWhen iOS recognises a code message it replaces ReRime with the system keyboard for a moment. Switch back to ReRime with the globe key; the code is still offered.
  • Known limit: the message automation may not fireOn the test iPhone, the “message contains …” automation did not always fire, and an English-only code message is especially likely not to trigger it. No code message from a real service has been tried yet.

Typing and candidates

  • New gestureSwipe down on Shift to switch 中 / ENOn the full keyboard, a short swipe down on Shift toggles Chinese and English. Shift shows EN or 中 in its corner, shows the target language once the swipe is armed, and gives a light tick. A tap and a double tap still shift; a swipe that’s too short or fails never changes case or turns on Caps Lock.
  • HighlightGrammar Model Candidate: long sentences in the first two more oftenWhenever the grammar model’s sentence differs from the first candidate, it appears second; the first candidate never changes. The model is only 30 MB and comes close to a 420 MB full model, and the longer the sentence, the bigger the gain (see the tests). It ships with the App, works with the newer dictionary, lives under Experimental Features and is on by default.
  • Date and time from pinyinType shijian or sj, riqi or rq, xingqi or xq, and the current time, date or weekday is offered as the second candidate.
  • Brackets and quotes come in pairsTyping an opening bracket or quote from a key inserts the closing one with the caret between them; typing the closer steps over it, and Delete on an empty pair removes both.
  • Symbols where they belong. is no longer read as ·, and a full-width symbol next to its half-width twin carries an FW tag.
  • Long pinyin stays quickIn a very long run of pinyin, a key that leaves the last syllable half typed used to be noticeably slow; it now stays smooth. Short input is unchanged; in long input, a few candidates at such a key differ from before.
  • Text lands in orderIn some apps with their own text fields, a chosen English word was typed twice, or later text landed before earlier text. The keyboard now clears its inline pinyin first and writes the committed text a moment later, so those fields receive it in order.
  • Symbols and emoji in a rowInput → Symbols & Emoji → Auto-Return to Letters is on by default, as before. Turn it off and the number and symbol pages, the Space symbol panel and the emoji panel stay open after a pick, so you can enter several; each panel’s own return key goes back to the letters.

Feel and haptics

  • Five key feelsKey Feedback offers System, Crisp, Soft, Weighty and Mechanical, with one strength setting. Your earlier choice carries over.
  • Delete follows the keysDelete can be Same as Keys, Stronger, Lighter or off; by default it feels like the keys, as on the iOS keyboard.
  • Haptics no longer drop outTaps could stop vibrating after iOS dismissed and restored the keyboard, or moved it to another window. The keyboard now reconnects its haptics as soon as it appears.
  • A quiet Delete on an empty fieldHolding Delete with nothing left to remove no longer keeps vibrating and clicking; the first press still gives feedback.

Lighter and steadier

  • Three crashes fixedThree keyboard crashes found in public beta 1.1.1 (61) are fixed: when the app behind the keyboard went to the background (the most frequent one), when the keyboard was hidden in English mode, and in a few text fields.
  • A clean start after switching appsLeaving an app clears unfinished pinyin; the first key after you return reloads the input engine.
  • A lighter keyboard startThe keyboard needs clearly less memory as it appears, with Fuzzy Pinyin on as well. Candidates are unchanged.
  • Less memory overallThe App’s peak memory at launch is far lower. In the keyboard, the symbol table, Traditional conversion and the correction model all take less, and the emoji catalog loads only when you first touch the emoji key. iPhone figures are still being collected.

Panels, settings and the App

  • Panels follow the keyboard’s languageThe clipboard, Quote Scripture, calculator and other panels opened from Space, and the keyboard’s notices and hints, follow the keyboard’s input mode: Simplified shows Simplified Chinese, Traditional shows Traditional Chinese, and EN shows English that fits on one line. VoiceOver keeps the iPhone’s language.
  • Experimental features show themselves firstTap an icon under Experimental Features to open a sheet: a keyboard demonstration for Hold Letters to Move Cursor and Glide Typing, and an example with its measured result for the grammar model. Your existing choices are kept.
  • Settings, rearrangedKeyboard Layout is its own page; flicks are one choice (off, Flick up, Flick down) with their content set in an editor; Reset Touch Habits moved to the Input page, with a clear warning.
  • A steadier flick editorThe Symbols and Actions tabs share one size, so the key bubble no longer jumps when you switch; Actions is a list with an icon, a name and a one-line summary, and picking one saves it and plays its demonstration in place. The bubble always opens above the key; Custom opens a system alert instead of flickering; custom paired punctuation follows Chinese or English.
  • Dictionary updates from a new sourceDictionary updates now come from the new public dictionary repository. Older builds no longer receive them; update to keep getting dictionary updates.

For testers

  • A glide sampling pageTestFlight builds include a prompted glide sampling page: triple-tap the version in About to open it. The page shows sentences to glide; outside it, nothing is recorded.
  • The data stays with youEach tester gets a short random code (resettable, with an optional nickname) to tell exports apart. Files stay on the phone, leave it only when you share them, and are deleted after 7 days. Every round draws fresh sentences; it records which kind of candidate you chose, never the text. App Store installations never show or record it.
  • Diagnostics exports include memoryThe typing diagnostics export now carries the keyboard’s memory footprint, its lifetime peak and a coarse breakdown, read once as the keyboard leaves the screen, with no typed text.

New in 1.1

The two updates public beta 1.1.1 (61) already carries, both from September 26: 1.1.0 makes correction more dependable and always reversible; 1.1.1 fixes the details of Copy All and the cursor.

1.1.1 · Fixes and polish

  • Copy All and Clear All finishOn an empty field, or one whose text ends in a repeated character (a, 哈哈, 。。), they used to keep “reading” until they timed out. Now they end at once; on an empty field the keyboard says there’s no text and leaves your clipboard alone.
  • The drag starts at the caretAfter a line break or an emoji at the end, the first moment of a cursor drag no longer jumps to the line start or before the emoji.
  • One light tap at the edgeNo more texture when the caret can’t move any further; a drag that reaches the start or end of the text gets a single light tap.
  • Edges are rememberedWithin one editing session, a second drag stops right at an edge the first one found.
  • Paragraph flicks reach the endsParagraph start and end, and Previous or Next start and end, now work in the first and last paragraph too: the keyboard walks to the boundary (up to 8,192 characters, 3 seconds), and if it can’t find it, the caret stays put and the notice says so.

1.1.0 · Correction you can trust, and take back

  • Space fixes typos againOrdinary near-miss typos are corrected when you press Space. How far a correction may go depends on what the letters can mean: a valid full pinyin spelling is replaced only when your touch points show a slip, and an intended abbreviation such as mingtj stays as typed.
  • Suggestions arrive in placeA correction ready within 50 ms of the candidates takes second place, with at most one slide; a later one keeps its place after the third regular candidate (where 1.0.0 always put it). The strip never reorders twice.
  • Every correction can be undoneAfter a Chinese auto-correction by Space or punctuation, the strip shows the original pinyin in quotes. Tap it to remove the correction and edit the pinyin again; the dictionary forgets what it was about to learn. After a punctuation undo, choosing again puts the caret just after the kept punctuation. Backspace is still a plain delete.
  • English catches up lateIf the spelling check answers within 200 ms after Space, the word is still corrected, with the same one-tap undo.
  • VoiceOver hears correctionsCorrections are announced (“Corrected to …”), and so are the undo candidate and its result, in all three interface languages.
  • Ready when it comes backThe input engine stays warm between keyboard appearances, so the keyboard is ready the moment it returns; it’s still released under memory pressure or after 20 seconds hidden. The candidate strip no longer rebuilds its layout on every keystroke.
  • Dictionary data and noticesCorrection now uses the Wanxiang syllable table (414 syllables). No Rime Ice data ships any more, and the bundled notices were checked and corrected.
  • Quieter diagnosticsThe developer entry stays hidden until unlocked; exports are kept for 7 days and engine logs for 3, each capped at 20 MiB. The sensitive trace mode is gone.

1.0.0 highlights

Correction

Type it right, and it stays right.

Correction is now a safety net. Valid pinyin is never quietly rewritten, and blue suggestions wait behind the third candidate, so the words you expect stay where you expect them. Misspellings find their way home more often too: qingha still offers 清华.

Demo: gaobuhaodou, typed one letter at a time. Every candidate bar is taken from a real device.

Chinese and English

English in a Chinese sentence, in one go.

End your pinyin with an English word and the whole phrase is ready among the candidates: wodeiphone becomes 我的iPhone, dakaiwifi becomes 打开WiFi. It sits after the first three candidates, so Space never picks it by accident.

Demo: Type wodeiphone and tap 我的iPhone.

English typing

Mistype in English. Space fixes it.

Switch to English and teh becomes “the” when you press Space. dont gets its apostrophe, i becomes “I”, sentences start with a capital, and a double space ends one with a period. Changed your mind? Tap the quoted original to put it back.

Demo: Space corrects the word in English mode; tapping “teh” restores it.

Candidate bar

The first candidate is what Space types.

Correction suggestions and emoji now come after the first three candidates. The bar loses its dividing lines, pressed candidates get a soft rounded highlight, and the full list opens on a spring.

Demo: Type zheli, open every candidate, close the list and press Space for 这里.

Cursor

Hold a letter. The keyboard becomes a trackpad.

When you aren’t composing pinyin, hold any letter for 0.4 seconds. The keys fade, your text appears across the keyboard as a quiet page, and a magnifier follows the focus. Move across lines and paragraphs; lift your finger and the cursor stays put. On by default.

Demo: Hold g and drag the cursor to just after 周末.

Flicks and editing

Cut and paste with a flick.

The default layout stays pure: flicking up types each key’s symbol from the numbers page. Want more? In Keys, give any letter your own characters, or make it Cut, Paste, Copy All or Clear All. Every edit is announced at the top of the keyboard, and every one can be undone.

Demo: With Cut on X and Paste on V, 下午三点 moves to just after 明天.

Customization

Every key, the way you like it.

Flicking up and flicking down each have their own layout, and every letter can carry your own characters, a short phrase or an editing shortcut. Change them on the keys themselves in Keys; the corner label updates the moment you do. Drag to reorder the Space bar’s shortcut bar, and set candidate size, key labels and keyboard height all in one place.

Demo: Give G a new flick symbol, then drag Calculator to a new spot on the shortcut bar.

Space shortcuts

Hold Space. There’s a calculator inside.

The shortcut bar can now be reordered and trimmed — up to seven of eight actions. Calculator is one of them: the expression and its result show in the candidate bar, and “=” writes the answer into your text. Percentages work the way Calculator does, and parentheses pair themselves.

Demo: Type 200+10%. The result comes from the App’s own calculation rules.

Clipboard and Big Bang

A link stuck to its text? Tap to split.

Copied a web address fused to a message? Big Bang finds where it can split. Each tap makes one cut and keeps the original whole; after several inserts, each press of Delete takes back exactly one.

Demo: Split https://example.museum明天ABC123, insert the pieces, then undo them one at a time.

Sound and haptics

Every touch, measured.

Sixteen keyboard sounds, chosen and tuned separately for typing and Delete, each with four subtle variations so fast typing never sounds like a machine gun. The haptics carry meaning too: typing is never throttled; dragging the cursor feels like a fine texture that lightens as you speed up, rising light-then-firm as you move up a line and firm-then-light as you move down; clearing history takes a hold, with taps that build as it fills.

Demo: Search for Panda, audition and favorite Holy Panda, then give Backspace a different haptic. The web page plays no sound or vibration.

The App

Open it, and know what’s left to do.

The new home screen shows at a glance whether the keyboard is ready, and how many steps remain. Setup walks you through replicas of the real Settings pages, step by step. Settings screens teach with live examples instead of paragraphs.

Demo: From the steps still to do on the home screen, all the way to Ready.

Everything in 1.0.0

Every change in 1.0.0 since public beta 0.10.0 (53), grouped by area. Where later versions changed things again (when and where corrections appear, the Space shortcut bar, haptic styles, switching Chinese and English), “New in 1.2” and “New in 1.1” above take precedence.

Pinyin and correction

  • Correct input stays correctFor valid full pinyin, or input of three letters or fewer, correction only suggests. It never takes Space and never replaces what you typed.
  • Nothing you’re typing gets eatenSuggestions no longer drop a trailing syllable-shaped ending, or swallow a whole syllable.
  • Misspellings find their wordMissing, extra or mistyped letters recover the intended word more often — qingha → 清华, xuexio → 学校. When a whole sentence won’t correct, pick the right beginning and keep going. Words you’ve taught the keyboard come back from misspellings too.
  • Two features graduateCorrected Word Selection and Pinyin Cursor are now standard and on by default. If you turned them off before, they stay off.
  • New English words are learnedLatin words you commit as typed in Chinese mode, and new words you confirm in English mode, join your personal dictionary on this device.

Touch accuracy

  • Space is never lostPress a letter before Space has lifted and Space still lands first; the letter starts new pinyin.
  • Two thumbs, in orderWhen thumbs overlap, letters go in the order they were pressed.
  • Smarter gapsA tap between two keys weighs which pinyin letter is likely next. A tap on a key is always that key.
  • No dead edgesUp to 12 pt beside the key area and 8 pt above it now reach the nearest letter.
  • Correction reads your touchWhen you land between keys, correction favors the neighboring key.
  • Learns your aim, on this iPhoneThe keyboard learns your habitual offsets, used only to resolve taps in the gaps. It is saved only with Allow Full Access, and never leaves this iPhone. Once it has learned something, Reset Touch Habits appears in Keys.

Chinese, English and mixed

  • English after pinyinwozaiyongpython → 我在用python, xiazaiapp → 下载app. This candidate comes after the first three and takes a tap; the Chinese and English parts are learned as usual.
  • English auto-correctionCorrects once at Space, sentence punctuation or Return — teh → “the”. The blue first candidate is the correction Space will apply; the second is your original in quotes. Tap it afterwards to restore the word, and it won’t be changed again this time.
  • Contractions and capitalsdont → “don’t”, i → “I”, and a capital at the start of sentences and empty fields. Real words such as “its” and “well” are only offered as candidates.
  • The “.” shortcut and apostropheDouble-tap Space after a word for “. ”. The English numbers page gains an apostrophe. At the start of a sentence, double-tap Shift for Caps Lock.
  • Three switchesAuto-Correction, Auto-Capitalization and the “.” Shortcut live in Input → English, all on by default. If a text field turns auto-correction off, so does ReRime.
  • Half-width in addressesIn web address and email fields, the numbers and symbols pages type half-width punctuation, and the keys show exactly what they type.
  • Punctuation while candidates waitFlick a comma while apple is still in the candidate bar and get “apple,”. While composing Chinese, a flick first confirms the phrase, then adds the punctuation.

Candidate bar

  • Suggestions and emoji move backSuggested corrections and emoji now follow the first three regular candidates, so the first is always what Space types. Turn emoji off with Display → Emoji in Candidates.
  • CleanerNo more line under the bar or between rows of the full list. Pressed candidates get a rounded highlight, and the list opens and closes on a spring.
  • Full listOnly the list’s first item uses the first-candidate style; very long candidates stay on one line, shortened in the middle.
  • Detents when you dragDragging the bar ticks lightly past each candidate — rate-limited and silent.
  • Larger text, larger viewWith a larger system text size, touch and hold a candidate to see it enlarged.

Cursor and editing

  • Hold letters to move the cursorWhen you aren’t composing pinyin, hold any letter for 0.4 seconds and drag the cursor in any direction, across paragraphs; at the keyboard’s edges it keeps going. On by default, in Input → Experimental Features.
  • See your text while you dragThe keys fade and your text appears across the keyboard, clearest on the focus line; the magnifier carries a floating cursor and glides between lines.
  • Haptics with a sense of directionPassing characters feels like a fine texture that lightens with speed; moving up a line is light-then-firm, moving down is firm-then-light.
  • Edit inside pinyinWhile composing, hold Space to move within the pinyin, add or remove letters and watch the candidates refresh. Slide up to jump to the start, down to the end; return to where you began to cancel.
  • Emoji stay wholeIn some text fields, the cursor no longer stops in the middle of an emoji.
  • Privacy by designThe keyboard never moves the cursor to read your text. Only where you drag does the context iOS already provides stay in memory — for at most 20 seconds, never logged, saved or sent.

Keys and flicks

  • A pure default layoutFlick up is on by default and types each key’s symbol from the numbers page. No shortcuts are assigned for you.
  • Custom flicksIn Keys → Flick Input, choose Flick up or Flick down, tap any letter and give it a character, punctuation or a short phrase — or nothing at all. Reset Layout resets only the current direction.
  • Editing shortcutsThe same editor can make a flick Cut, Paste, Copy All or Clear All, with Allow Full Access. Cut, Paste and Clear All can be undone; Copy All can be cancelled; Clear All works up to 1,000 characters.
  • Copies that clear themselvesClear After defaults to 5 minutes, with 1 minute, 1 hour or never; Paste on Other Devices is off by default. ReRime keeps none of this content.
  • Harder to flick by accidentA flick now needs 20 pt; small slides still type the letter. A light tap confirms each time a flick arms or releases.
  • Select All is not availableiOS allows Select All only for the system keyboard, and ReRime says so.

Customization and Settings

  • Settings that show, not tellThe flick-direction choices demonstrate with a moving finger; editing shortcuts loop a short animation of their result; the Quick Actions page opens with a live example of each action. One look, and you know.
  • Edit right on the keysThe first visit to Keys says “Tap a key to change its flick.” Tap a letter and a bubble offers symbols, your own text, or None — and the corner label updates at once.
  • Up and down, separatelyTurn on one direction or both. Reset Layout resets only the direction you’re editing.
  • Drag to reorder the shortcut barTap Edit and drag actions into place while the others make room. Drag one down to remove it, tap + to add. Up to seven at once; when full, replace directly.
  • A calculator that fits youDecimal places, percent of the previous value, and 789 on top or 123 on top — the digits glide to their new places when you switch.
  • Date, time and Scripture formatsTurn each of the five Now formats on or off, each with a live example. Quote Scripture lets you choose the reference position, full or short book names, and verse numbers, with an instant preview.
  • DisplayCandidate text size, emoji in candidates, key label size and weight, letter case, keyboard height (drag the top of the preview), App theme and App icon.
  • InputSeven correction styles with a live preview, eight fuzzy pinyin pairs you can turn on one by one, and separate switches for English Auto-Correction, Auto-Capitalization and the “.” Shortcut.
  • Key FeedbackSound, volume, five haptic styles and intensity, set separately for typing and Backspace. Volume and intensity move in 5% steps, with a light tick at each.

Space bar and shortcuts

  • Make the shortcut bar yoursIn Quick Actions, reorder, add and remove — up to seven at once from eight: Now, 繁/简, EN/中, Symbols, Calculator, Clipboard, Settings and Quote Scripture. Quote Scripture isn’t included by default.
  • CalculatorRelease on Calculator to open it: a 4 × 6 keypad with the expression and result beside it, “=” for exact and “≈” for rounded. Parentheses pair themselves; √() and implied multiplication work, as in 87(2) = 174.
  • Calculator settingsResult decimal places 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / up to 12; 789 on top or 123 on top; Percent of Previous Value on by default, so 200+10% = 220.
  • Hard to get wrong1,000+1 = 1001; a number glued to text gets a hint; full-width digits just work; a second operator replaces the first. Delete is wine red and % is deep green, easy to tell apart in light and dark.
  • Quote ScriptureThe offline Chinese Union Version (1919): choose book, chapter and verse; select a range, cross chapters or combine up to five passages. Adjust the inserted format in Quick Actions → Quote Scripture.
  • A finer symbol browser12 categories and 99 groups, 6,280 symbols, each category remembering where you left off.

Clipboard and Big Bang

  • Split what’s stuck togetherBig Bang understands web addresses, Chinese, Latin and digits run together, emoji and Chinese word boundaries. Each tap makes one cut, keeps the original whole, and pieces can be split again — with a seam animation and original sound and haptics.
  • Undo, one at a timeAfter inserting several pieces, each press of Delete takes back one; holding Delete won’t sweep away earlier inserts.
  • Back goes straight to the keyboardPick an item from recent history, and Back returns directly to the letter keyboard.
  • Clearing takes a holdClearing recent history takes a 0.6-second hold with a progress ring and building haptics; let go to cancel.
  • Follows your switchesSplit haptics and sounds follow Keyboard haptics and Keyboard sounds.

Sound and haptics

  • 16 keyboard soundsiOS Native and Gboard Native, plus 14 mechanical keyboard recordings such as Buckling Spring, HHKB Pro Hybrid, Cherry MX and Holy Panda. Choose and tune sounds separately for typing and Backspace; search, audition and star your favorites.
  • No machine gunTyping and Backspace each have four subtle variations, played at random and never twice in a row.
  • Try before you typeKey Feedback has a try-out keyboard that plays the current sound and haptics without typing anything.
  • Delete speeds upAfter about 1.3 seconds, holding Delete removes a character every 50 ms, with a slightly firmer tap on every third.
  • Feedback in more momentsPressing Space while composing, arming a flick, opening emoji variants, inserting from the clipboard and a rejected calculation each have their own haptic.
  • About Full AccessThe keyboard can make sounds and vibrations only with Allow Full Access; without it, pressed keys change color more clearly.

Haptic design

  • Feedback at the touchSound, haptic and the pressed color arrive in the same frame your finger lands; text commits when you lift. Typing is never throttled, however fast you go.
  • Panels tick, never clickMoving across the shortcut bar, candidate bar, emoji categories or a flick threshold gives only a light, rate-limited selection tick.
  • The texture of the cursorDragging the cursor feels like a fine texture that lightens as you speed up; light-then-firm going up a line, firm-then-light going down — you can feel where it’s heading without looking.
  • Holding DeleteAfter about 1.3 seconds it speeds up to a character every 50 ms, while the haptics ease to a slightly firmer tap every third — fast, without numbing your thumb.
  • Clearing takes a holdHold for 0.6 seconds: three taps build with the progress ring, then one firmer confirmation. Let go to cancel.
  • Big Bang splitsA light contact, then a crisper “split”, with an original sound.
  • Errors, gentlyPressing “=” on an unfinished expression gives one soft tap and a short hint — nothing more.
  • Your switches ruleEvery sound and vibration follows Keyboard sounds, Keyboard haptics and their levels. Reduce Motion reduces animation, not haptics. Without Full Access, iOS lets no keyboard make sound or vibrate, so pressed keys show a stronger color instead.

Home screen and App

  • A new home screenThe top shows where you stand — Ready, or how many steps remain — with one button to Try or start setup. Below: six feature tiles and a General group. Try opens a try-out sheet in place of the old always-on text field.
  • Full-screen setupReplicas of the real Settings pages, step by step; each step completes only when the keyboard itself reports it.
  • Home iconsRedrawn, with a new Icon Style: Colorful, Soft, Outline or Neutral. Soft by default.
  • Settings as demonstrationsEvery list loses its dividers; Keys edits flicks on the keys themselves; Quick Actions has a live example; Key Feedback has a try-out keyboard.
  • DictionaryOne status card and one button. Open a .rerimedict file from AirDrop or Files to go straight to the import preview, plus an illustrated guide to making your own.
  • Globe keyOn iPhone and iPad models with a Home button, a globe key appears next to 123: tap to switch keyboards, touch and hold for the list. Face ID models are unchanged.
  • SteadierNo white flash when the keyboard hides, and less repeated work at launch.

Version history

From the prototype in May to 1.3.0 today: 63 versions and builds, every one of them here. The ones marked Milestone changed the direction.

1.3 · Nine-key rebuilt, a dictionary that updates itselfThe internal builds after public beta 1.2.4 (69). They come together in 1.3.0 (80), the current public beta.7 versions
  1. 1.3.0 (80)October 15 · Public beta

The public beta of 1.3, with everything from builds 70 to 79.

    • The code of internal build 79 plus one fix: when the keyboard lets go of its dictionary in the background, it closes the dictionary before giving back its background time.
    • The diagnostic and tuning tools of internal builds are not in it; the sampling pages are.
  2. 1.3.0 (79)October 14 · Internal testing

Return and symbol labels follow the input mode; faster glide recognition.

    • The Return key, the symbol category names and the accounting keyboard follow the input mode; where nine-key’s Return key has no room for the word, it shows the return arrow.
    • Glide recognition no longer pays for a slowed internal lookup, taking 16% to 22% less time on a Mac; the glide context is recounted for dictionary revision 36.
  3. 1.3.0 (78)October 15 · Public beta

The public beta of 1.3, with everything from builds 70 to 77.

    • The same code as internal build 77, with a new build number.
    • The diagnostic and tuning tools of internal builds are not in it; the sampling pages are.
  4. 1.3.0 (76 / 77)October 9 · Internal testing

A new haptic route, Paste Verification Codes removed, an English apostrophe, clipboard fixes.

    • 76: every keyboard haptic plays on ReRime’s own haptic route; each feel under Key Feedback gains a Sharpness and a Release slider.
    • 77: Paste Verification Codes is removed and clipboard records keep 4 to 8 digit strings again; in English mode the L flick types an apostrophe; a split clipboard item shows no gap and splitting is no longer slow on long unbroken text; the bundled dictionary is revision 36.
  5. 1.3.0 (75)October 8 · Withdrawn · never released

Submitted for the public beta, then withdrawn; nobody received it.

    • The same code as internal build 74. Withdrawn from Apple’s review on October 9: the loss of haptics after the first few presses was still in it.
    • Everything it was to bring to the public beta is in 1.3.0 (78).
  6. 1.3.0 (71 – 74)October 6 – 7 · Internal testing

The bottom row’s edge and touches, a steadier background, no digits when typing nine-key in a run.

    • 71: the bottom row’s keys show their lower edge and the keyboard is 1 pt taller; the gap beside Space belongs to Space; the bundled dictionary is the current one, so nine-key works on a new install.
    • 72: 准备词库 is never drawn over candidates; no key stays drawn as pressed.
    • 73: the keyboard opens the dictionary only when it is about to be shown, and iOS no longer ends it in the background.
    • 74: on nine-key a tap made in passing is no longer a digit flick; sampling gains a nine-key block and stops when the App is left.
  7. 1.3.0 (70)October 5 · Internal testing

A rebuilt nine-key keyboard, new looks for the Space ring, a dictionary that updates itself.

    • Nine-key: a symmetric bottom row (符, Emoji, Space, 中/英, Return), key groups in their own colours and four fixed punctuation cells; 符 opens a new symbol page and reaches Emoji; a flick or hold on 0 opens a number page.
    • A flick on Backspace clears the field, with Undo; it can be changed or turned off under Flick Input.
    • The Space ring: where it opens, which icons show, how the chosen one stands out, and six new line styles.
    • The dictionary updates by itself on Wi-Fi and downloads from three hosts.
    • First-run setup is one step, enabling the keyboard; the paste permission is offered only after a refused read.
    • Fixes the doubled English candidate in QQ’s 申请加群 answer field; the sampling page gains Tap Sampling.
1.2 · Glide, the Space ring and new key feelsThe internal builds after public beta 1.1.1 (61): glide typing, a grammar-model second candidate, new key feels, a lighter keyboard and the Space ring. They come together in 1.2.4 (69), the public beta before 1.3.0.5 versions
  1. 1.2.4 (67 / 68 / 69)October 2 · Internal · Public beta

The Space ring, experimental verification-code pasting, less memory.

    • Holding Space opens a half ring of up to twelve functions; its look and motion are chosen on the Space Ring page, with ProMotion support, and sliding below Space no longer closes it.
    • Paste Verification Codes (experimental): a copied code of four to eight digits appears first in the candidate strip, and a tap types it; codes from Messages need a Shortcuts automation added once.
    • The keyboard and the App use less memory; very long pinyin stays smooth; in more apps with their own text fields, text lands once and in order.
    • The symbol pages and emoji panel can stay open after a pick; experimental features show a demonstration first, and the grammar-model candidate moved in with them.
  2. 1.2.3 (66)September 29 · Internal testing

Keyboard panels follow the keyboard’s language.

    • The clipboard, Quote Scripture, calculator and other panels, and the keyboard’s hints, follow the Simplified, Traditional or EN mode; VoiceOver keeps the iPhone’s language.
  3. 1.2.2 (65)September 29 · Internal testing

Steadier key haptics, a lighter keyboard, a grammar model that ships with the App.

    • Key haptics reconnect when the keyboard appears or moves to another window, instead of dropping out.
    • The keyboard needs clearly less memory as it starts, with Fuzzy Pinyin on as well.
    • The grammar model ships with the App; dictionary updates now come from the new public dictionary repository.
    • Holding Delete on an empty field no longer keeps vibrating and clicking; a swipe on Shift that’s too short never changes case.
    • Glide sampling draws fresh sentences every round.
  4. 1.2.1 (64)September 28 · Internal testing

Glide sampling for testers, fewer crashes.

    • TestFlight builds gain the glide sampling page: triple-tap the version in About; nothing is recorded outside it.
    • Three keyboard crashes found in public beta 1.1.1 (61) are fixed; leaving an app clears unfinished pinyin.
    • On the full keyboard, holding Space and lifting without moving no longer opens symbols.
  5. 1.2.0 (63)September 28 · Internal testing

Glide typing, a grammar-model second candidate, new key feels.

    • Glide typing on the full keyboard (off by default): draw a word or a whole sentence across the letters.
    • A swipe down on Shift switches Chinese and English; holding Space no longer switches language on the full keyboard.
    • The grammar model’s sentence takes second place, and the first candidate never changes.
    • Five key feels, with Delete matching the keys by default; settings rearranged, with Keyboard Layout on its own page.
    • Brackets and quotes come in pairs; time, date and weekday from pinyin; symbols put right, and several flick editor fixes.
1.1 · Correction you can take backAfter 1.0.0: correction recalibrated and every correction reversible; 1.1.1 finishes the details of Copy All and the cursor, and its build 61 was the first public beta since 0.10.0; build 62 then brought nine-key.3 versions
  1. 1.1.1 (62)September 27 · Internal testing

    The nine-key keyboard.

    • A nine-key Chinese keyboard: keys 2–9 type pinyin, the left column locks each syllable’s spelling, and the bottom row and Space gestures match the full keyboard; both share the dictionary and personal learning.
    • Nine-key needs the newer dictionary, which the App downloads; until then it shows as unavailable.
    • Key haptics no longer go silent after iOS dismisses and restores the keyboard; the flick bubble opens above the key.
  2. 1.1.1 (60 / 61)September 26 · Internal · Public beta

Fixes and polish: Copy All finishes, the cursor holds steady.

    • Copy All and Clear All end at once on empty or short fields instead of reading until they time out; an empty field leaves the clipboard alone.
    • Cursor drags start at the caret, even after a line break or emoji at the end; reaching the start or end gives one light tap, and the next drag remembers the edge.
    • Paragraph flicks reach the start and end of the first and last paragraph.
  3. 1.1.0 (59)September 26 · Internal testing

Correction you can trust, and take back.

    • Space fixes ordinary typos again; valid pinyin is replaced only when your touch supports it, and intended abbreviations stay as typed.
    • A suggestion ready in time takes second place with at most one slide; a late one stays after the third regular candidate.
    • After every Chinese auto-correction the original pinyin waits in the strip: one tap restores it and the dictionary forgets the correction; VoiceOver announces corrections and their undo.
    • English corrections that arrive within 200 ms after Space still apply; the keyboard stays ready between appearances.
    • Correction uses the Wanxiang syllable table and no Rime Ice data ships; diagnostics are limited in time and size, and the sensitive trace mode is gone.
1.0.0 · The first complete release candidateEverything since public beta 0.10.0, gathered into 1.0.0 to prepare the next public beta.1 versions
  1. 1.0.0 (58)MilestoneSeptember 25 · Internal testing

The first complete release candidate — the biggest update since the 0.10.0 public beta.

1.0.0 gathers every change since 0.10.0: three internal builds, 0.11.0 to 0.13.0, and a full day of integration on September 25. Correction changes from eager rewriting to a quiet safety net, and mixed Chinese and English, the cursor, the calculator, sound and the new home screen all take shape here. It prepares the next public beta and is being verified internally first.

    • Correction becomes a safety net: valid pinyin and short input are no longer rewritten; blue suggestions wait behind the third regular candidate and never eat what you typed; Corrected Word Selection and Pinyin Cursor become standard and on by default.
    • More accurate touch: taps in the gaps weigh the likely next letter, overlapping thumbs keep their order, Space is never lost before the next letter, and the screen edge beside the outer letters now counts.
    • Mixed Chinese and English: pinyin ending in an English word offers one combined candidate (wodeiphone → 我的iPhone); English mode adds auto-correction you can undo, contractions, sentence capitals, a double-space period and an apostrophe key.
    • Cursor and editing: when you aren’t composing, hold any letter to turn the keyboard into a two-dimensional trackpad, with a magnifier and directional haptics, on by default; flicks can cut, paste, copy all and clear, all undoable.
    • Space shortcuts and calculator: seven of eight actions, your choice; a calculator keypad previews results as you type (87(2), √(), 200+10%); plus offline Chinese Union Version Scripture and symbols in 12 categories and 99 groups.
    • Sound, haptics and the App: 16 sounds (iOS and Gboard natives plus 14 licensed recordings), set separately for keys and Backspace; the home screen shows whether you’re ready, settings teach with examples, dictionaries import from AirDrop, and a globe key appears where needed. Updating resets key sounds once to iOS Native at 65%.
0.11 – 0.13 · Internal iterationsThree internal builds where sounds, pinyin editing, the text cursor, clipboard splitting and the calculator keypad took shape.3 versions
  1. 0.13.0 (57)September 23 · Internal testing

Calculator keypad and a customizable shortcut bar.

    • Hold Space and slide to the calculator icon to open the calculator keypad; the 123 key still switches to the regular numbers page.
    • Results preview beside the keys, with paired parentheses, square roots, implied multiplication (as in 87(2)), adjustable decimal places, and 789 or 123 on top.
    • Actions on the shortcut bar can be removed, added and dragged into order.
    • Custom flicks: assign your own characters or short text to a key’s flick, and reset each direction on its own.
    • One tap on Back from a Big Bang history item returns straight to the keyboard.
  2. 0.12.0 (56)September 22 · Internal testing

Reorganized symbols, layered clipboard splitting and native sounds.

    • Symbols reorganized into 12 categories and 99 groups, switching smoothly and remembering where you were.
    • Flick punctuation even while candidates are showing: Chinese confirms the full candidate first, English keeps your word.
    • Full candidates stay right after editing inside pinyin; hold Space to nudge left and right, preview the start or end, and back out.
    • Big Bang splits URLs fused with Chinese, Latin and digits layer by layer, keeping the original; after several inserts, each Backspace takes back one.
    • Simpler Key Feedback settings with iOS and Gboard native sounds (38 in all) and better-balanced key and Backspace volume; the first update sets sound to iOS Native at 65%.
  3. 0.11.0 (55)September 21 · Internal testing

36 key sounds, pinyin editing and the text cursor.

    • 36 searchable recorded sounds you can audition, chosen and leveled separately for keys and Backspace.
    • Better correction candidates, segment selection and recall of personal words.
    • Optional pinyin cursor editing keeps unfinished input; optional letter hold moves the text cursor left and right.
    • Big Bang splits URLs fused with text, keeps the original pieces, and adds a split animation with sound and haptics.
    • Better focus for the home text field, and smoother keyboard show and hide.
0.9 – 0.10 · The big update and steady public betas0.10.0 was the “input, layout and sound” update — and the last public beta before 1.1.1.10 versions
  1. 0.10.0 (52 / 53 / 54)MilestoneSeptember 19 · Internal · Public beta

“The input, layout and sound update” — the last public beta before 1.1.1.

0.10.0 is the build whose TestFlight notes called it a big update: capitalization, candidates, layout, haptics and sound, and two new editing features, all at once. It was the last public beta before 1.1.1 (public beta 53); 0.11 to 0.13 stayed internal and flowed into 1.0.0.

    • Shift case is kept letter by letter while composing Chinese pinyin, and confirming the raw text is more consistent.
    • The full candidate list continues after what the bar already shows, without repeats; recent emoji and symbols run continuously, and M gains a backtick.
    • The extra gap between the bottom row and the globe and dictation keys is gone; key height adjusts from 39 to 49 pt in 0.5 pt steps, with three quick presets.
    • Five haptic styles, four key sound sets and independent intensity and volume, with Backspace set separately.
    • Natural diagonal flicks reach the secondary character more easily; sliding back to the start cancels.
    • Two optional new features, off by default: Corrected Word Selection picks the right first half before the rest of the pinyin; Pinyin Cursor edits letters in the middle of unfinished pinyin.
  2. 0.9.8 (50 / 51)September 17 · Internal · Public beta

Layout fix when the keyboard changes.

    • When the host page switches or the keyboard height changes, the candidate bar no longer stretches or separates from the keys.
    • Pinyin, candidates and the expand button always stay in the same place above the keys; the normal layout is unchanged.
  3. 0.9.7 (48 / 49)September 17 · Internal · Public beta

    Reliable correction picks.

    • Fixes a blue correction that showed but didn’t commit when tapped, falling back to a regular candidate.
    • Learning from picks, protection of chosen prefixes and double-tap protection are unchanged.
    • After committing, Backspace deletes one character at a time as usual; before committing it still deletes pinyin letters.
  4. 0.9.6 (47)September 17 · Internal testing

Backspace after a correction, and continuous typing.

    • After committing a blue correction, Backspace behaves like any candidate: it deletes the character before the cursor instead of restoring the pinyin.
    • Continuous typing reuses earlier stable spelling decisions, cutting repeated work on long sentences.
  5. 0.9.5 (44 / 45 / 46)September 17 · Internal · Public beta

“Smoother input”: correction respects what you typed, and fast typing never drops haptics.

    • Input where every segment is valid pinyin but may have hit a neighboring key (for example, meaning 搞不好都得用) also gets extra suggestions, with the original first candidate kept.
    • Correct whole sentences such as 记得带上雨伞 are less often displaced by a shorter correction.
    • Fixes missed haptics during fast typing and held Backspace, without catching up after you let go.
    • In English mode the symbol hint in each letter’s corner matches what it types; an extra blur on the top edge of Big Bang chips is gone.
  6. 0.9.4 (42 / 43)September 16 · Internal · Public beta

The first public roll-up since 0.7.7.

    • The public build gathers everything from 0.8 and 0.9: neighbor-key correction in long sentences, up to two independent blue suggestions, seven correction styles, the App in three languages, a new home screen and setup guide, and dictionary and personal word improvements.
    • The internal build (42) lightens background work for local diagnostics; the public build doesn’t include them.
  7. 0.9.3 (41)September 16 · Internal testing

    Small clarity fixes.

    • Fixes blurred edges on the first row of the emoji and symbol panels.
    • Neighboring labels in the date and time shortcut get an opaque background and no longer overlap candidates.
    • While recording internal diagnostics, the Space key edge shows a steady soft glow.
  8. 0.9.2 (40)September 16 · Internal testing

Correction style previews and tidier settings.

    • The seven correction styles move to their own page with a fixed sentence preview that updates instantly.
    • Fixes descenders such as j and g covering the underline.
    • Clipboard settings and their demo move to a page of their own under Keys and Quick Actions.
    • The internal build adds opt-in, 24-hour-maximum input diagnostics exported only locally.
  9. 0.9.1 (39)September 16 · Internal testing

Four more correction hint styles to compare.

    • Adds A strike and fill, B strike and color, C inline swap and E soft pair beside the original three; the default is unchanged.
    • The settings preview and the real keyboard share one renderer, keeping source and suggested letters distinct in light and dark.
  10. 0.9.0 (38)September 16 · Internal testing

A big App tidy-up: a new home screen and setup that follows real status.

    • The home screen brings back the Frost Hare, lets you try typing right away and hides the keyboard with a tap on empty space; Get Started shows only the steps left.
    • Pinyin correction hints come in three looks (underlined source, highlighted suggestion, or no mark), distinct from blue Chinese candidates.
    • Dictionary ZIP and personal word import merge into one entry, and My Words can be browsed and searched.
    • Fixes Backspace still queuing deletions after you let go; the settings preview matches the three keyboard heights.
    • Adds App themes and light, dark and automatic App icons.
0.8 · Correction and first runNeighbor-key correction for short and continuous pinyin, a three-language App, and a steadier first run.6 versions
  1. 0.8.5 (37)September 15 · Internal testing

    Stability fixes.

    • Fixes a keyboard startup crash when switching to ReRime.
    • Candidate size, key labels and height preview instantly, and settings save in the background.
    • Older valid personal word lists are accepted and kept intact on update.
  2. 0.8.4 (36)September 15 · Internal testing

First run, three languages and settings previews.

    • The App speaks English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, following the system by default.
    • New installs prepare the built-in dictionary automatically; fixes dictionaries wrongly rejected on iOS 27.
    • Settings preview candidate size, key label size and weight, and keyboard height instantly.
    • The vibration switch and strength merge, with animated demos of flicks, Space hold, date and time, symbols and Big Bang.
  3. 0.8.3 (35)September 15 · Internal testing

    More reliable correction picks.

    • Up to two blue corrections, each committing its own text, covering homophones and different corrected spellings.
    • With a correction showing, raw input over 10 letters no longer takes a candidate slot; Return still commits it.
    • In the full list, pick the first half and keep correcting the rest; fixes blue candidates that showed but wouldn’t commit.
  4. 0.8.2 (34)September 15 · Internal testing

Neighbor-key correction in continuous pinyin, and fewer stray flicks.

    • Hitting a neighboring key mid-sentence still earns a blue Chinese suggestion (for example qugio → 去过), with the replaced letter marked.
    • While pinyin or English is unconfirmed, flicks type the plain letter instead of stray punctuation; right after a pick, punctuation flicks work immediately.
  5. 0.8.1 (33)September 15 · Internal testing

    Fixes a blurry candidate bar.

    • Turns off the system scroll-edge effect on the candidate bar, so candidates stay crisp in dark text fields.
  6. 0.8.0 (32)September 15 · Internal testing

    Short-pinyin correction and continuity.

    • Misspellings of about three letters are checked against neighboring keys and valid syllables first (for example gio can suggest guo), keeping your original input.
    • Fixes state issues with Caps, switching languages, and continuing Chinese after symbols.
    • Raw text, Space, Return and taps in the candidate bar all follow the same input state.
    • Secondary flicks can be off, up or down, with an interruptible animation inside the key.
0.5 – 0.7 · Dictionary, candidate bar and EnglishSigned precompiled dictionaries, a compact candidate bar, separate English candidates and learning, and continuous pinyin correction.11 versions
  1. 0.7.7 (30 / 31)September 13 · Internal · Public beta

Top padding for pinyin, and the first public roll-up since 0.4.0.

    • The pinyin line moves down 3 pt and no longer touches the top in flat-topped apps such as WeChat.
    • The public build (31) gathers everything since 0.4.0: one keyboard height on every page, a compact candidate bar, separate English candidates and learning, 8 fuzzy pinyin pairs, continuous pinyin correction, a kaomoji key, whole-insert undo in Big Bang, and signed precompiled dictionaries.
    • Adds a bilingual Chinese and English privacy statement readable offline, from Help & About and from Dictionary & Updates.
  2. 0.7.6 (29)September 13 · Internal testing

    A more compact candidate area.

    • The top bar tightens from 67 pt to 44 pt on iPhone, the same on the Chinese, English, numbers and symbols pages.
    • Chinese candidates keep one baseline whether idle or composing; English candidates are slightly larger and centered.
  3. 0.7.5 (28)September 13 · Internal testing

    Centered English candidates.

    • English candidates move up about 10 pt to sit visually centered in the fixed bar, with page heights unchanged.
  4. 0.7.4 (27)September 13 · Internal testing

No more height jumps between pages.

    • The Chinese, English, 123 and #+= pages keep one top height, so the keyboard no longer jumps when candidates appear or clear.
  5. 0.7.3 (25 / 26)September 13 · Internal testing

    Separate English candidates and learning.

    • English mode keeps your capitalization, merges duplicate suggestions, completes keyb → keyboard and offers fixes like teh → the, replacing only when tapped.
    • English picks are learned separately from Chinese.
    • The English candidate bar keeps one height with or without candidates.
    • Removes the easily mis-tapped blue “use original”.
    • First dictionary setup accepts every iOS 26 point release.
  6. 0.7.2 (24)September 12 · Internal testing

    Kaomoji candidates and syllable-separated pinyin.

    • The smiley key on the symbols page opens 72 kaomoji and text emoticons, with an expanded list.
    • Pinyin sits left-aligned and splits at real syllables (as in ni'hao).
    • Big Bang’s number and URL filters become toggleable capsules, with consistent colors and press animation.
  7. 0.7.1 (23)September 12 · Internal testing

Whole-insert undo in Big Bang, and polish.

    • After inserting a piece from Big Bang, one Backspace takes the whole insert back and keeps your existing text.
    • The blue up arrow returns; filter and history colors refined.
    • Better pinyin font and spacing; less empty space above English when there are no candidates; capital-letter hints no longer overlap the letter.
  8. 0.7.0 (22)September 12 · Internal testing

Continuous pinyin correction and fuzzy pinyin.

    • Common misspellings are corrected as you keep typing: Space accepts, one Backspace restores the pinyin, and the spelling change is shown.
    • Richer local context improves correction after missing or wrong characters within a sentence.
    • Eight two-way fuzzy pinyin pairs, each switchable, off by default.
    • Punctuation glyphs are precisely centered; the Big Bang toolbar moves to the top (number and URL filters, history, Backspace and Send).
  9. 0.6.1 (21)September 11 · Internal testing

Signed precompiled dictionaries, and a more reserved clipboard.

    • The public dictionary is checked and compiled on the server; the App installs it after verifying its signature, and keeps your dictionary and personal data if anything fails or is cancelled.
    • Ordinary typing and keyboard activation no longer read the system clipboard.
    • The Big Bang panel can run the current app’s Return, Search or Send directly, inserting selected pieces first.
  10. 0.6.0 (20)September 10 · Internal testing

Download and adapt the Wanxiang dictionary on iPhone.

    • Dictionary & Updates downloads new Wanxiang releases, checks simplified and traditional glyphs on device and compiles them; failure or cancel keeps the existing dictionary.
    • Fixes input order issues caused by touch event timing.
    • Adds optional local clipboard favorites, off by default, saved from the Share menu.
  11. 0.5.0 (19)September 10 · Local checkpoint

    An internal integration checkpoint.

    • Merges the 0.4.1 missed-letter fixes and internal diagnostics tools; no new visible features, and not uploaded to TestFlight.
0.3 – 0.4 · The first public betaOffline pinyin correction on by default and the first public invitation — with clipboard splitting close behind.4 versions
  1. 0.4.1 (18)September 9 · Internal testing

Fixes two kinds of occasional missed letters.

    • A letter typed with another finger while Space is still down is no longer blocked.
    • Letters still type when a touch strays slightly past the keyboard’s outer edge.
  2. 0.4.0 (17)September 8 · Internal · Public beta

    Clipboard splitting and continuous inserts.

    • Hold Space and slide to the clipboard icon to open the panel; Read Clipboard on Open is off by default.
    • Clipboard content splits into paragraphs, phrases, URLs and more; tap a piece to insert it, and the panel stays open for the next.
    • Optionally keep three days of history on this device with a size limit; clearing takes effect immediately.
  3. 0.3.1 (16)September 8 · Internal testing

    Keyboard height and display settings.

    • Input & Display offers compact, standard and tall keyboard heights.
    • Key label size, weight and letter case can be set separately.
    • Adds recent emoji, and a clipboard entry on the Space shortcut bar (six in all).
    • Fixes which key owns a letter hold that slides.
  4. 0.3.0 (15)MilestoneSeptember 6 · Internal · Public beta from September 7

The first public beta: offline pinyin correction arrives.

The first build with a public invitation link: anyone could join through TestFlight. It is also the first to turn on offline pinyin correction by default and bundle the dictionary in the App, so new users no longer download it separately.

    • Pinyin correction on by default: confident local misspellings get a full correction, accepted with Space or a tap, and the first Backspace right after restores the pinyin.
    • A verified Wanxiang dictionary ships inside the App — tap to prepare and use it, with personal words and learning kept on update.
    • English pick learning returns (for example ok → OK), along with word-triggered emoji candidates.
    • Fixes a crash when the host app disconnects.
0.2.0 · Enter the Frost HareEleven builds under one version number: the first ReRime you could install from TestFlight, and the switch to the Wanxiang dictionary.12 versions
  1. 0.2.0 (3)MilestoneAugust 30 · Internal testing

The first installable ReRime: enter the Frost Hare.

After the May prototype, the project restarted on August 9: first rebuilding touch tolerance, feedback and observability, then spending three weeks shaping the iPhone keyboard. 0.2.0 is the result — the first build with the Frost Hare icon, and, once the developer account was registered, the first you could install from TestFlight.

    • A native UIKit 26-key Chinese keyboard; the Rime engine runs fully offline, and keys and candidates are never uploaded.
    • Type the moment the keyboard first appears; it looks right in apps with rounded or square tops.
    • Candidate size (small, standard, large), density and the full list tuned together; English descenders are no longer clipped.
    • Punctuation right after pinyin commits in the right order; offline emoji browsing with categories, recents and long-press variants.
    • Hold punctuation to slide across choices at the same height and release to type; properly cased English words such as Python are learned correctly.
  2. 0.2.0 (4)September 2 · Internal · First friends beta

    • Adds the privacy manifest and third-party notices, with no feature changes; the first build submitted for Apple’s external beta review, opened to the friends group by September 4.
  3. 0.2.0 (5)September 2 · Internal testing

    • One-tap public dictionary: download and deploy in one go, keeping existing data, with cancel and retry.
  4. 0.2.0 (6)September 2 · Internal testing

    • Long-press punctuation choices align with the actual key and stay within the screen edge; slide sideways without moving up, and slide down to cancel.
  5. 0.2.0 (7)September 2 · Internal testing

    • Adds Repair Public Dictionary on the home screen: back up, redeploy the right dictionary, keep learning and custom phrases, and restore properly cased candidates like Python and JavaScript.
  6. 0.2.0 (8)September 3 · Internal testing

    • A new native home screen, settings and setup instructions.
    • Long-press punctuation opens on frosted glass with softer corners and a subtle selection motion.
  7. 0.2.0 (9)September 3 · Internal testing

    • Fixes the whole keyboard turning into a flat white or gray slab during a punctuation hold, keeping the system backdrop and corners.
  8. 0.2.0 (10)September 4 · Internal testing

    • Hold Space for the shortcut bar: Now, simplified/traditional, Chinese/English, all symbols and Settings; slide at the same height and release to run.
    • Now shows the full date and time on a card; the symbol browser pages through nine categories.
    • English types directly, unknown words aren’t blocked and candidates need a tap; when Chinese has no full match, Return shows the raw text and one press types just that.
    • Older installs missing traditional resources can complete them in Settings.
  9. 0.2.0 (11)September 5 · Internal testing

    • Fixes the English candidate bar flickering during continuous typing and Backspace after switching to English.
  10. 0.2.0 (12)MilestoneSeptember 5 · Internal testing

    Switching to the Wanxiang dictionary.

ReRime’s language foundation moves from Rime Ice to the Wanxiang full-pinyin dictionary, covering Chinese, English and mixed entries. Every later correction, precompiled dictionary and personal word builds on Wanxiang.

    • Tap Download and Use Wanxiang in the App to switch; the old Rime Ice test setup is retired.
    • Settings split into four: Dictionary & Updates, Input & Display, Keys & Quick Actions, and Help & About.
    • My Words imports personal word lists with a preview before confirming; public updates keep personal words, frequencies and learning.
    • Check for updates manually or on a schedule, with a separate notice when upstream has a release not yet adapted.
  11. 0.2.0 (13)September 5 · Internal testing

    • No more missing-glyph boxes in candidates: each character is checked for iOS display before a dictionary ships.
    • The symbol browser and the v command share one 5,436-item catalog; math symbols show as a full grid and can be searched by name.
    • The shortcut bar’s centered round highlight returns, and the script icon becomes a single-layer 繁/简.
  12. 0.2.0 (14)September 5 · Local checkpoint

    • Brings back English pick learning and word-triggered emoji; these shipped with 0.3.0.
0.1 · The prototypeA Rime keyboard prototype that could type 你好 — where it all began.1 versions
  1. 0.1 (1–2)MilestoneMay 14 – May 21 · Local prototype

Where it began: a Rime keyboard prototype that could type 你好.

ReRime starts here: a main App and a keyboard extension, running Rime Ice offline on iPhone through librime. It proved Rime could run inside an iOS keyboard, but touch tolerance, feedback and logging weren’t yet reliable on real devices — which led directly to the August restart.

    • The main App imports and deploys the Rime Ice resource bundle; the keyboard extension calls the Rime engine offline (nihao → 你好).
    • An early candidate bar and full list, adapted to the iOS 26 keyboard look.
    • The prototype was never distributed through TestFlight or any other channel.
